What is this place?
no really, what is it
What is this place?
This is “The Museum of Self”.
Ok… what is “The Museum of Self”?
Short answer - A Substack newsletter thing with an eclectic collection of writings.
Long answer - In 2024 I was diagnosed with autism. This made me feel a lot of things, and I ended up questioning my entire self. Discovering you have a neurological condition that affects everything about your existence in the 30th year of life can be pretty weird!
So out of this Weirdness, I started writing again. I wrote short memoirs, blogs, stories, and some other stuff, and I decided I to share what I’ve written. Substack seemed like a good space for it all, so here we are.
But why the pretentious name?
Short answer - alright because it sounds cool.
Long answer - so the “Self” referred to in the name is me, the writer (and it took me a while to figure that out). I hope to put work here that is a truthful and vulnerable account of my experiences as a person.
But, over time, I hope that The Museum can become a sort of textual exhibit where people can pilfer through the halls and see little vignettes and reflections of what I’ve written over the years.
Additionally, I hope it to be an accounting of what it was like to live during a far right authoritarian regime in America (which is what we are doing right now).
And who are you again?
C.J. Quist, but you can call me C.J. Quist.
I would like an author bio please.
C.J. Quist grew up in southern Utah, but decided to leave the state after college with their lovely wife for (literally) greener pastures in Virginia. A lot of things happened after that (life, a pandemic, etc.) and after bouncing around they have settled into being a Chicago based person, and it suits them well. No kids, but they do have a dog and two cats, which is essentially the millennial equivalent of 1 child.
Thanks C.J. Quist.
You are welcome!
So on this Sub-whatever, you pretty much post whatever you want?
yup
Why should I pay you to write?
Well, I think that it’s all fairly entertaining and good! But you’re welcome to look through past posts and decide for yourself.
In the near future I may move some posts Behind The Paywall.
If you don’t have the cash but still want to support my work, please share the museum with others!
Anything else I should know?
When I was a kid, I prayed that I would have a voice like Freddie Mercury. When it didn’t happen by 17 I was genuinely devastated and its one of the many reasons why I left my religion.
I… don’t know if I needed to know that.
Well, I think you did.
Thanks for reading!
